About Anneke.
Anneke Faas is a certified Iyengar yoga instructor at the Intermediate Junior 2 level. She was inspired by the precision and genius of Mr. Iyengar’s teaching at the age of 14 during her first year of high school where she was an avid athlete. Tennis, swimming, modern dance, and hiking in the Colorado mountains filled her teen years while studying at the Colorado School of Iyengar Yoga. Teaching yoga in college to her peers, Anneke started her teacher training with Nancy Stechart and Leslie Bradley in 2002. She continued her studies upon moving to New York City and graduated from the premiere Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York two-year Teacher Training course under the mentorship of the late Mary Dunn. Since then, Anneke has had two sons and now lives in Berkeley, California. While raising a family, preparing for her next level assessment, learning to surf, and tending her garden, Iyengar yoga feeds so much of Anneke’s focus and inspiration. As a teacher, Anneke has a warm presence and commands her classes with ease and careful focus. She is especially drawn to working with mothers, helping to reduce the stress and tensions of everyday life. She has specialized training in pre-natal yoga and is a C-IAYT certified yoga therapist. Anneke currently studies with Michael Lucey, Heather Haxo Philips, and visiting senior teachers Lois Steinberg, Rebecca Lerner, and Carrie Owerko.
Anneke is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and generous in explaining the poses and movements. She knew everyone’s name immediately and sprinkled the class with insights and ways to think about yoga. Most importantly, she loves what she does! Many thanks. -Theresa Velcamp
